Not at all! Swimming with whale sharks is a safe and incredible experience! Whale sharks are filter feeders, primarily nourishing themselves on small plankton and tiny micro-organisms. Despite their immense size, they pose no threat to humans. Their average swimming speed, cruising at about 3 mph, combined with their familiarity with humans, makes them incredibly docile creatures.
While you don't necessarily need to be an expert swimmer, we do encourage participants to have prior snorkeling experience and reasonably strong swimming skills. This ensures that you'll be well-prepared to fully enjoy your unforgettable encounter with whale sharks.
Getting too close or touching a whale shark can disrupt their natural behaviors and potentially harm their protective mucus layer. It's important to respect their space and listen to your guide.
